From Excellence to Influence:Building a Team By Teaching

A good worker and a great leader are super important to a team and an organization. Both share similar qualities and seem nearly the same at everything… except one. TEACHING! A good worker excels at the skills necessary to perform a job or task. The great leader, however, excels at something that will exponentially exacerbate a team or organization. GREAT LEADERS CAN TEACH!

Sign of Good Leader

Mastery of Skills: Demonstrating Unparalleled Proficiency

A good worker possesses a deep understanding of their craft or field, showcasing exceptional skill and expertise. This mastery is not just about having knowledge but about applying it effectively to solve problems, improve processes, and deliver high-quality work consistently.

Dependability: Becoming the Go-To Individual for Solutions

Reliability is a hallmark of a good worker. They are the ones colleagues trust to meet deadlines, handle critical tasks, and deliver results without compromise. Their consistency in performance makes them indispensable to their team and organization.

Quality Focus: Setting the Standard for Excellence

Good workers set the benchmark for quality. They pay attention to the details and are committed to maintaining high standards in everything they do. Their dedication to excellence inspires others to elevate their work quality and contributes to the overall success of their projects.

Self-Improvement: Continuously Elevating Personal Performance

A commitment to continuous learning and self-improvement is what distinguishes a good worker. They seek feedback, embrace challenges, and constantly look for ways to enhance their skills and knowledge. This not only benefits their personal growth but also ensures they remain valuable assets to their organization.

Inspiration by Action: Leading Through Example

Good workers lead by example, demonstrating what it means to be committed, diligent, and passionate about their work. Their work ethic and attitude towards their responsibilities inspire their peers to strive for similar excellence in their own tasks.

Visionary Guidance: Crafting Teachable Moments for the Future

Great leaders are adept at turning their vision into teachable moments for their team. They not only articulate where they are heading but also make it a learning journey for everyone involved. By doing so, they ensure that the team not only understands the collective goals but also learns how to navigate towards them, making the achievement of these goals a powerful learning experience.

Empowerment Through Teaching: Unleashing Team Potential

A hallmark of great leadership is the ability to empower others through education. Leaders who can teach not only impart knowledge but also confidence, enabling team members to unlock their potential. This approach transforms individuals from followers into independent thinkers and problem solvers, significantly amplifying the team’s capabilities.

Mastery and Mentorship: Beyond Knowing to Sharing

Leadership transcends personal mastery of skills by embracing the role of mentor. Great leaders are those who can take their understanding and expertise and make it accessible to others. They excel in breaking down complex concepts into understandable lessons, facilitating growth and ensuring their team is equipped to meet challenges head-on.

Building Collaborative Learners: Teaching Teamwork

Great leaders teach the value of collaboration by example. They foster an environment where team members learn from each other, encouraging a culture of shared knowledge and mutual growth. By teaching the importance of teamwork, leaders ensure that the collective strength of the team is greater than the sum of its parts.

Legacy of Learning: Cultivating Future Leaders

The ultimate goal of a great leader is to leave behind a legacy of learning and growth. By focusing on teaching, they ensure that their impact lasts well beyond their tenure, preparing a new generation of leaders who are not just skilled in their jobs but are also capable of teaching others. This cyclical process of learning and teaching ensures that the organization continues to evolve and succeed.

Courses created

I Don't Know It Until I Can Teach It

At every organization I have been with leadership roles have become second nature. Below are some courses that I have designed to help train staff on teams that I have led. From nonprofit, to for-profit, to NCAA, to Higher Education, and across an array of other fields, I have not only learned and invested myself with knowledge but more importantly I translated it into courses that others can benefit from.

A comprehensive data dashboard titled 'Animal Cruelty by District 2019 - 2023' with various data visualizations. The main feature is a color-coded map of a region, presumably Houston, displaying the number of animal cruelty crimes per district, with numbers overlaid on different areas. Darker shades indicate higher crime numbers, ranging from red for the highest through orange to yellow for lower numbers. A sidebar lists neighborhoods and their respective number of crimes, with Sharpstown at 70 crimes at the top. Pie charts on the right show crime distribution by City Council District of Houston and by US House Districts Greater Houston Area, with color keys identifying political representatives alongside numbers of reported crimes. Below, bar graphs show animal cruelty crimes by year for the Greater Houston Area, with a notable increase in 2021. The dashboard is powered by a platform called 'Esri' and includes multiple sources such as City of Houston, HPB, Texas Parks & Wildlife, CONANP, Esri, TomTom, Garmin, and others.

This image shows a professional setting where a presentation is taking place. There is a person standing at the front, presumably leading the session, with a screen behind them showing what looks like a slide from a presentation. The audience, consisting of several individuals, is seated around a conference table. Most are facing the presenter, indicating attention and engagement. They have laptops open in front of them, suggesting that this is a work-related meeting where note-taking or immediate follow-up on the discussion points might be needed. The room appears well-lit, and there are gift bags on the table, which could imply that this event is special, perhaps a seminar or a workshop with some token of appreciation provided to the attendees.
